When Jorge (J.S.) Lewinski decided to end a personal mission to capture on film every major artist of his generation, London’s Tate Gallery and the famous Chatsworth House almost came to blows over who was to acquire the collection.

The Duke of Devonshire succeeded and the future of Jorge’s outstanding collection of artist portraits was assured. Lewinski’s own story is every bit as remarkable as the 40 years he devoted to the world of contemporary art.
