The secret wealth of the Swiss is banked at Winterthur - a centre for photographic excellence reaching out from the heart of Europe.
Two institutions in Winterthur are striving to put Swiss photography at the centre of the international scene. Since 2003 the two have been on one site – the Fotostiftung Schweiz (Swiss Foundation for Photography) and the Fotomuseum Winterthur. In 1971 the Fotostiftung began collecting original exhibition quality prints which - amounting to a vast and near-priceless collection - offers an ambitious overview of the history and key moments of Swiss photography.
The Fotomuseum – founded in 1993 – presents photography as an art form and as a document with important examples of work by the premiere league of international contemporary art and documentary photographers.
