Moriyama Daido, Eros or Something not Eros, 1968, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography

Tokyo, Japan
Moriyama Daido Retrospective 1965-2005

Famous for his b/w, grainy and out-of-focus images, Moriyama Daido began his career as a freelance photographer, taking pictures in theatres among other environs. But his best shots are from the streets, capturing the fleeting moments of chance encounters.
Moriyama Daido, Shinjuku, 2001-02

THE CURRENT exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography consists of two parts – firstly a retrospective spanning Moriyama Daido’s four decades long career. 200 works from 1965-2000 were included, some from the Museum’s own collection. Secondly, visitors can see a portfolio of 60 latest photographs taken in Hawaii between 2004-7.

To coincide with the show, several discussion events have been organised with the artist who turns seventy this year.
