The Wilson sisters’ NY exhibition takes inspiration from Kubrick and Jean Cocteau.
Jane and Louise Wilson: Oddments Room 2008, c-print

THEY DON'T seem to go by without being inspired. At 303 Gallery, Jane and Louise Wilson are showing photographs and a sound piece - The Silence is Twice as Fast Backwards. Its title taken from Jean Cocteau’s film Orphée, it relates to the descent of Orphée into the underworld.

Whilst recording bells of St. Peter's church in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire for The Silence is Twice as Fast Backwards, they took enigmatic photographs of the same title at the near-by Sudeley Castle’s surroundings.

Other photographs in the show are from Maggs Bros Ltd bookshop in London whose ‘Oddments Room’ houses incomplete and odd volumes. The execution of these images has been inspired by Wilsons’ current residency at the Stanley Kubrick Archive in London.
