KARSH CAME from Armenia, first to Canada and later moving to USA, where he became the photographer of the stars, be it on the political (Winston Churchill, Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy) or film stage (Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren). He also took portraits of artists like Pablo Picasso and Georgia O’Keeffe, and scientists (Albert Einstein). ‘Being ‘Karshed’ was an honor for his sitters,’ said Anne Havinga, the curator of the show.
Beside the famous portraits, the exhibition includes early works, landscapes and cityscapes, Karsh’s magazine assignments and photographic work for the Bishop Fulton J. Sheen’s book, This is Rome, his letters and diaries as well as the actual camera he used.
